Today, on Royce Monteverdi’s birthday, we at RPS gather as one team to honor the founder who changed an entire industry—and changed many of our lives along the way. Royce passed away on 4 August 2025, but his work continues to move every time a customer presses “Retrieve,” every time a project team solves an impossible constraint, and every time a development realizes that parking can be smarter, safer, and more green.
This Founder’s Day is not just remembrance. It’s a recommitment to the standard Royce set: invent boldly, execute relentlessly, and build what others think as impossible.
At this juncture, we are proud to list a few of his world class projects and the Innovation that he brought to Robotic Parking revolutionizing the entire Automated parking industry.
Creating a new industry: “Robotic Parking”
In 1994, Royce founded Robotic Parking Systems, Inc., creating the term robotic parking and transforming automated parking from mechanical concepts into a software-driven, robotic solution. He didn’t just build a company—he defined an industry.
Patents and technology leadership
From the beginning, Royce emphasized original engineering. Under his leadership, Robotic Parking Systems, Inc. developed proprietary technologies and secured patents that established a strong innovation and intellectual-property foundation for the company.
Shaping global fire safety standards for automated parking
Royce served as Chair of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Technical Committee, where he was instrumental over several years in developing and implementing NFPA 88A fire code provisions specific to automated and robotic parking garages.
His leadership ensured that emerging automated parking technologies were supported by clear, practical, and safety-first fire codes—helping jurisdictions approve projects confidently and enabling the industry to scale responsibly worldwide.
First fully automated parking garage in the USA , UAE & Kuwait
In 2000, Robotic Parking Systems delivered the first fully automated parking garage in the United States in Hoboken, New Jersey. The system demonstrated exceptional reliability, throughput, and uptime—proving robotic parking could perform in real urban conditions.
He was also instrumental in bringing this first of its kind tech to UAE & Kuwait.
Guinness World Records: redefining scale
Royce led the company to global recognition with record-breaking projects, including:
- Emirates Financial Towers, Dubai – Guinness World Record for the largest automated parking facility at the time
- Al Jahra, Kuwait – 2,314 parking spaces, becoming the largest automated parking facility in the world
These projects validated that robotic parking could scale to city-level infrastructure.
Innovation with social responsibility
Beyond engineering, Royce believed technology should serve society. A Robotic Parking Systems project in the UAE earned Arabia CSR Awards recognition, highlighting sustainability, efficiency, and urban impact.
Between 2009 and 2011, Royce Monteverdi worked with the Police Department of Dubai to support their drug abuse prevention programs. Monteverdi provided the city with hundreds of CDs on drug abuse which the police translated and distributed to the schools in Dubai.
A lifetime of world-class engineering
Before robotic parking, Royce contributed to major global engineering works—including Europe’s first wafer factory, Munich Airport air bridges, the Ariane 4 launchpad, and advanced power-plant steel systems—shaping the multidisciplinary thinking he later brought to RPS.
As we mark Founder’s Day on Royce Monteverdi’s birthday, we do more than remember a visionary—we recommit to the values he lived by. Royce believed that engineering must serve people, that innovation carries responsibility, and that true progress is measured by reliability, safety, and lasting impact. From pioneering robotic parking to shaping global safety standards, his work continues to guide cities, engineers, and future generations.
The systems he built still operate, the standards he shaped still protect, and the ideas he championed still move us forward.
Honoring Royce means carrying his legacy ahead—with integrity, courage, and an unwavering belief in building what truly matters.
Robotic Parking Systems – Always A head.
