It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robotic Parking Systems’ founder, Mr. Royce Monteverdi, on 4 August 2025.
Mr. Monteverdi was a pioneer who transformed the parking industry. Coining the term “robotic parking” to describe his new technology, Monteverdi brought cutting edge robotics to develop systems that would allow robots to reliably and efficiently park automobiles, making fully automated parking structures possible. In 1994 he founded Robotic Parking Systems, Inc.
Monteverdi came to parking with a sterling reputation in the engineering community, having built acclaimed assembly lines for Mercedes-Benz and air bridges for Munich Airport. The “Lift and Run System” created by Robotic Parking Systems, the first system allowing 3 axis simultaneous movements, produced a radical transformation in parking, allowing the movement of 30 to 50 cars at the same time.
Monteverdi was the originator and co-developer of the Automated and Mechanical Parking Association guideline for automated parking, which was adopted as the standard by the National Parking Association in Washington, DC. He initiated the National Fire Code for automated parking for the National Fire Protection Association and served as a technical committee member for the association.
We will greatly miss his knowledge and enthusiasm.
During this transition period for Robotic Parking Systems, Mr. David Tufaro, a key shareholder and member of the Board of Directors, will take the reins of the company as “interim” CEO. Tufaro earned a B.A. from Yale University, and a Juris Doctor and Master of City Planning from University of Pennsylvania.
Having developed properties since 1978, Tufaro brings a strong background and vital skillset to the company.
Tufaro worked for Summit Properties, an East Coast multifamily developer, starting as a founding partner and Mid-Atlantic Regional Partner. He became one of the most consistently active and successful apartment developers in the Mid-Atlantic Region with apartment communities developed in Newport News, Richmond, Fredericksburg, Northern Virginia, Washington, DC, Maryland, Wilmington and Philadelphia. The projects brought innovation in design, amenities and services offered to residents of the properties.
His current company, Terra Nova Ventures, founded in 1999, focuses on the development and investment in unique, hard to solve and challenging sites and buildings, including development of urban infill sites, preservation of historic structures, and adaptive reuse of buildings.
Mr. Tufaro has been involved with Robotic Parking Systems, Inc. since 2000. This interest grew out of his experience with high-density multifamily communities in which parking is always a major issue to be resolved.
Mr. Ramanathan (“Ram”) Ramasubbu will continue to handle daily worldwide operations from our headquarters in Clearwater, FL as he has done for many years.
Mr. Ramasubbu joined Robotic Parking Systems in early 2006 and has more than two decades of expertise in mechanical engineering and automation. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and an Executive MBA with a focus in Operations management.
As Chief Operating Officer, Ramasubbu oversees all facets of the manufacturing, engineering and business development divisions.
